Nutrition-Friendly School and Family

Gaining healthy eating habits is very important for children to grow into healthy individuals in the future. However, learning in children does not occur only through short-term information transfer. It requires processes such as role modeling, experiencing, and repeating in different environments.

Within the scope of the “Nutrition-Friendly School” project carried out in our school, we practice healthy food hours with our children. With foods such as fruits, nuts, honey, and molasses, we aim to instill healthy eating habits. However, for this habit to be permanent, it must also be supported in the home environment. For this reason, we also involve families in the process by implementing the “Nutrition-Friendly Family” practice.

How Should the Health Center Be?
The Health Center established at home should be a special area to reinforce the child’s healthy eating habits.

  • Natural honey, molasses, tahini

  • Water

  • Dried fruits such as raisins and figs

  • Ginger and turmeric to support immunity

  • Fresh seasonal fruits

  • Lemon and a lemon squeezer

  • Nuts (walnuts, almonds, hazelnuts)

  • Various spices and black seed oil

  • Reminder clock or alarm

How Should the Health Center Be Used?
A simple routine made part of daily life contributes to the development of self-discipline in children.

  • Consuming honey and nuts in the morning or evening by visiting the Health Center

  • Showing determination not to disrupt the routine in the first days

  • Applying it in the morning, evening, or both, as needed

  • Regularly updating food variety, paying attention to freshness

  • Using an alarm clock for reminders

What Should Be Considered?

  • Ensure foods are fresh

  • Store in glass or porcelain containers

  • Choose foods suitable for room temperature

  • Adjust daily consumption amounts

  • Ensure participation of all family members

Children take their parents as role models. Therefore, it is important for mothers and fathers to use the Health Center as well.

Where Should the Health Center Be Established?

  • Having it in a fixed place helps build a habit

  • A special cabinet or an accessible corner can be chosen

  • Small regular changes can be made to keep interest alive

Benefits of the Health Center

  • Reduces tendency toward unhealthy foods

  • Strengthens the immune system

  • Reduces the need for medication

  • Healthy routines build self-discipline

  • Increases parent–child interaction

Technology Diet
A healthy life is not limited only to nutrition. Technology addiction also threatens children’s health.

  • Set time limits for social media use

  • Establish screen time rules within the family

  • Plan physical and mental activities together

  • Try to consume technology consciously

Conclusion
The Nutrition-Friendly School and Family project is based on school–family cooperation to make healthy eating habits permanent in children. Establishing a Health Center at home and making technology use conscious provide children with a healthy future both physically and mentally.
